Washington Hometown is about "community sourcing" rather than crowd sourcing. We work with local community and interest groups to gather and maintain information about special places in our state. The data that we gather is used to create maps and support education, helping people learn about our state. Managing information from many trusted sources in a single place allows us to mix and match information to create maps addressing different areas and interests.
Washington Hometown is a project of Manastash Mapping. Our mission is to provide a framework for sharing and finding information about our state, using place and the power of geographic information systems (GIS) to tie information on disparate topics and communities together into a single picture. Washington Hometown is committed to:
Helping communities and governmental agencies manage and share information about recreation, cultural resources, local history, and the local environment;
Promoting economic development by drawing visitors into communities throughout the state;
Providing businesses an opportunity to promote their company on the community maps and on custom maps;
Making data available to anyone who wants to map or analyze recreational and cultural resources.
